What is a veterinary specialist?
In the past decade new and exciting advances have been made in both human and veterinary medicine, allowing both people and pets to live longer and healthier lives. These developments have created a growing need for advanced veterinary training programs in specialized areas. A specialist is a veterinarian who has pursued additional training in one particular area of medicine. This includes an internship and completion of a residency in an accredited program. After passing a rigorous examination, a specialist becomes eligible to be awarded the title of Diplomate, also referred to as being Board Certified.

How does my veterinarian work with specialists?
Because your family veterinarian is most familiar with you and your pets, he or she is the best source of information if you suspect your pet may be ill. If your veterinarian feels your pet may benefit from a consultation or diagnostic procedure performed by a specialist, you may be referred to Animerge. By sending your pet here, your veterinarian is demonstrating a commitment to the best possible care for your pet by taking advantage of the advanced expertise, techniques and equipment available.
