Upon your arrival to Animerge, please check in with the receptionist. Turn in any necessary paper work that you may have had to fill out. Please give the receptionist any medical records or x-rays that you may have brought from your regular veterinarian. While we will make every attempt possible to obtain your pet’s records from your regular veterinarian before your visit via a fax, we are unable to receive x-rays in this manner. If we have a thorough copy of the chart, your pet’s record will be reviewed prior to your visit.
Your time is valuable. We will keep your wait to a minimum. Please understand, however, that some things are beyond our control. We aim to give each patient and their owner all the time that they need during their appointment.
During your first visit, you will meet Dr. Alsarraf or Dr. Glasser and their oncology technician Jenny Cruz. The Oncologist will take a history from you and a physical examination will be performed. Dr. Alsarraf or Dr. Glasser will then discuss the type of cancer that your pet has, the biologic behavior of that cancer and treatment options. Detailed treatment options will be given, to include types of therapy (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, immunotherapy, etc.), side effects, costs and various prognoses. They will strive to answer any questions that you may have. At times, further tests may be recommended to better asses your pet’s cancer. During that same visit, you may opt to begin a treatment process or may choose to take your pet home to discuss this information with your family. Drs. Alsarraf and Glasser and Jenny Cruz are available via the phone to answer any further questions that may arise.
After your visit, Dr. Alsarraf or Dr. Glasser will call your regular veterinarian to relay what was discussed at your appointment. A referral letter about this visit will then be faxed to your veterinarian. This can be placed in their medical records so that your pet’s records are up-to-date at both hospitals. Your regular veterinarian will always be a part of your pet’s health care team.
