If your pet is suffering from an eye condition or problem, AnimERge, our Raritan emergency pet hospital, can help. We ar
e a 24 hour pet clinic able to help diagnose and treat any eye diseases and other concerns you may have about your pet around the clock. We see pets on an emergency basis and for routine care for eye diseases and other concerns.
At our Raritan emergency vet hospital, our vets treat diseases ranging from glaucoma to anterior uveitis, or soft eye. We also treat diseases of the lens such as cataracts, corneal diseases and retinal diseases. We can also diagnose and treat tumors of the eye and surrounding area.
A disease such as glaucoma may cause your pet to experience a great amount of pain. Glaucoma occurs when the pressure in the eye socket changes. The pupil may be dilated and the eye may appear to be cloudy.
Uveitis also causes a great deal of eye pain and may require a trip to the pet emergency hospital. If your pet is suffering from uveitis, his eye may be red. There may be an increased production of tears and the third eyelid may bulge out. Your dog may shut his eyes or avert his face to avoid light.
If your pet's eye is cloudy but he does not seem to be in any pain, he may have cataracts, which can cause blindness. Left untreated, cataracts can cause glaucoma, as they can prevent fluid from properly draining out. We can surgically remove cataracts from your pet's eyes to help preserve sight and prevent other diseases from forming.
Some dogs can develop a condition commonly called pannus, which is inflammation of the cornea. In some cases, the disease also affects the third eyelid and conjunctiva. If untreated, pannus may lead to blindness.
